Monday Music closes the year in the Christmas spirit

-

After hosting many fine local and visiting musicians, Monday Music is taking a break for the winter. But not until one last performer graces the stage at the little Green Hill–Alma United Church on Dec. 10.

Ann Holton will make her first appearance as musical guest for December in the concert series and she will be bringing lots of favourite Christmas songs with her.

Holton has been performing in Pictou County and Nova Scotia since she was a young girl. Her vocal studies took her to Halifax to complete her Bachelor of Music in Voice and then to Ontario where she took a Bachelor of Education, as well a Master of Music degree in Voice and Literature. Holton returned to Pictou County to teach and she continues to perform frequently throughout the province.

Her performances range from theatre to solo engagements, folk to classical, often merging the two styles. Locally, she most recently has been seen performing at the deCoste Entertainment Centre where she played the role of Christie MacDonald, an operetta singer from Pictou. Holton also appeared in this year’s presentation of Songs of Remembrance.

She recently released her Christmas CD, A Merry Little Christmas, in Stellarton at a concert featuring Dave Gunning, Ardyth and Jennifer, Darren McMullen, Jeff Torbert, Dave Pos, and Karen Crowley. The CD is available online at www.annholton.com and local venues in the county and will also be available at the concert in Alma.

Holton will have some other county musicians helping her out at her Monday concert. She will be accompanied by Lloyd MacLean and Paul Tupper and has invited others to share the stage as well, notably Pierre and Katie Aucoin. Who knows, she may even put in a sing-along or two so all can feel the Christmas spirit. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and like all Monday Music in Alma concerts admission is $10 or what you can afford.
