Scotians split weekend games

TRENTON, N.S. — The Pictou County Scotians fell behind early and could never recover.

In a Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League game played Sunday night at Antigonish Arena – a 7-5 win for the Antigonish Bulldogs – Antigonish went up 2-0, allowed the Scotians to tie the game 2-2, then regained the two-goal advantage early in the third period, on their way to the win.

Jacob Lentz scored twice and assisted on two other goals for Pictou County, while Cory McCrudden, Lucas Rushton and Caelen Blaikie also connected for the Scotians.

Spencer Barron and Zachary Forsythe each had two goals to lead the Bulldogs, while Feargus MacDonald had a goal and three helpers.

The Scotians had their offence firing the night before in a 9-4 win over the Eskasoni Junior Eagles at Trenton rink.

McCrudden led the Scotians with a hat trick, Blaikie had two goals and singles were provided by Gillis Cox, Campbell Burrows, Rushton and Robert Burrows, who also had three assists. Jacob Denny scored twice for the Eagles.

Matt Murray made 39 saves in the Pictou County net.

The Scotians (14-12) are four points behind the Antigonish in the Sid Rowe, but have three games in hand on the Bulldogs. Pictou County next sees action when it plays a home-and-home series with the Glace Bay Min- ers; Saturday in Cape Breton and Sunday at Trenton rink (6 p.m. start time).
