The Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will come to life tonight at NGA
Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be brought to life tonight, Feb. 7, by students at New Glasgow Academy. More than 40 students, including Lily Whistler — as the wicked stepmother — are taking part in the time-honoured fairy tale, which begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.
New Glasgow Academy students are about to bring a Disney classic to a Pictou County audience.
Tonight, Feb. 7, the school will perform the play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
There are 42 students taking part in the play from primary through Grade 8.
Ashley Robertson is managing the play, which is being codirected by Katie Hale and Tara Bates.
She said it’s a great way to open the door for students and it’s exciting to see students who were once performing minor roles in younger grades now taking on lead roles.
“It kind of opens up another opportunity for them that they might not otherwise have explored,” she said.
Owen Atkinson, who is portraying the role of Snow White, said it’s been exciting to see it come together.
“It was really bad at one point,” she said with a laugh.
Lily Whistler, who pays the evil queen, agrees it’s come along way.
“It’s a huge difference,” she said. “When we first started practising everyone was reading off their scripts. Now everyone is like professional.” While it’s meant some sleepless nights, she’s thankful she’s had the opportunity.
“It’s been a really great experience and I’m really thankful I got such a good role,” she said. “We have such a great cast and crew.”
Jack, who plays the prince, said what he has enjoyed most is spending time with his friends as they rehearsed.
The performance will begin at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5. There will be some concessions including popcorn and — to keep with the theme — candied apples.
