NEW GLASGOW, N.S — Glen Haven Manor’s 50th anniversary celebrations are set and ready to go Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., 50 years to the day the long-term care facility first opened its doors.

Official ceremonies will take place at 4 p.m. and include anniversary cake and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a new gathering area called Clara’s Corner after resident Clara Teed, ambassador of the Glen Haven anniversary celebrations and a former staff member.

Teed, Glen Haven board chair, New Glasgow Deputy Mayor John Guthro, 50th anniversary honorary chair Henderson Paris and manor CEO Lisa M. Smith will perform the ribbon and cake cutting. Internationally award-winning New Glasgow Town Crier Jim Stewart will also give an official cry in honour of the Glen Haven milestone.

Residents, residents’ families and guests will be treated to live afternoon entertainment in all resident-care areas. Local performers include Jon Raven, Jason Brushett, Heather Cameron Leeder and Pat and Kendall Spaulding. There will be special refreshments and delicacies served and guests will also be able to enjoy a look back at 1969. A live on location remote with radio host Ann MacGregor will take place from 2 to 6 p.m.

“Similar to our annual Festival of the Tartans Garden Party, the 50th anniversary is an opportunity to come together to celebrate the residents and staff of Glen Haven along with its significant place in the history of this region and province,” adds Smith.

Glen Haven Manor has provided care for citizens in Pictou County and across Nova Scotia for five decades and is one of a select few facilities in the province to go through the Accreditation Canada process.

“We are committed to excellence in providing outstanding quality care and wellbeing to our residents and to be at the forefront of best practices and innovations,” said Smith. “We owe our residents a great deal and it is our privilege to provide them with quality care and a welcoming and caring home. They inspire and teach us each and every day. We take great pride in working with them, their families and our community partners.”
