144th anniversary at First United Baptist Church New Glasgow

- CONTRIBUTED

Praise the Lord was sung by the congregation as they opened the 144th service in celebration of their anniversary.

Pastor Darren Millet from Hatched Lake Halifax, as pastor of New Life Community Church, was the guest speaker. Millet was a former member of First Baptist in New Glasgow. He reminded the congregation that Monday was Pastor appreciation day.

Millet continued the messages on Abraham in the book of Genesis. Messages on faith and trust. He stressed the importance of trust. His three point sermon followed Abraham as he trusted God even when he wavered but stayed the course in trusting God. 1) Beginning trust, where God spoke to Abraham. Telling him to move from his fertile home to Palestine where land was not as fertile. He trusted God and moved. He had limited information on what God was asking him to do but he obeyed. Through Genesis 15 God speaks again and Abraham’s waiting was difficult, God encouraged him, so Abraham believed the Lord and this was counted as righteousness. Abraham didn’t like this but he trusted God. 2) Wavering trust occurs as you read Genesis 16. Hagar and Abraham, believed in what God said but they took back control which proved to put them on a rocky road and messed up what God had intended for them. 3) Something and Everything, trust is a process over and over. Trusting God is a journey of trust, take all your doubts and give them to God, trusting God in all things. Taking control yourself is not trusting God. Bring it to God and leave it in God’s hands, trusting Him in all things. This is difficult but God will bless.
