STELLARTON — Who do you contact when you have a question about your town? What services does your local government provide to its citizens?

Local Government Awareness Week, Nov. 17 to 23, 2019, is dedicated to increasing public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of local government. It also recognizes the important role citizens play in shaping their community through participation in local governance.

“This week provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn more about what their local government does and its role in all of our lives,” said Stellarton Mayor Danny MacGillivray. “It’s also a great way to encourage people of all stripes to participate in our local government processes, including community meetings and activities.”

During this week, staff and council from the Town of Stellarton will be getting out in the community to connect with residents. Residents can participate in the following ways:

Win great prizes by correctly answering the daily local government trivia questions via Facebook and Twitter;

Have the opportunity to meet with staff and council at different times throughout the week at the town hall;

View online via Facebook daily “Did you Know” videos from MacGillivray.

Students from GR Saunders will also be participating in a mock council meeting which will be live streamed. This year, the Town of Stellarton is joining communities across the province in celebrating Municipal Awareness Week.
