Fuel Fund accepting applications

PICTOU COUNTY — The Pictou County Fuel Fund is now accepting applications for heating assistance from families that are in urgent need.

The Fuel Fund provides oil, wood, wood pellets or propane to families in urgent need during the colder months of the year. Intended for those who are dangerously close to running out of fuel to heat their home and who have no financial means to pay for fuel, eligible families may use this support once per heating season.

The Fuel Fund has also begun its annual fundraising campaign to help fulfill its mission to ensure “No child should go cold in Pictou County.” These efforts were given a boost recently with a $16,500 donation from the Pictou County Tim Hortons stores from the annual Smile Cookie campaign.

“The PCFF board would like to thank local businesses, individuals, schools, municipalities, service groups and any other organizations who donated to support the 2018-2019 heating season,” said chairperson Roseanne MacGregor. “Because of the generous support during the fundraising campaign, 241 families were assisted in staying warm last winter.”

“While we realize there are many charitable organizations that serve the residents in Pictou County, we hope that people will continue to consider the Fuel Fund as a viable option to their giving,” said MacGregor.

Assistance from the Fuel Fund began on Nov. 15 and will continue until March 31.

The Pictou County Municipalities Crime Prevention Association processes requests and arranges for distribution of fuel to those in need on behalf of the Pictou County Fuel Fund.

Applicants are encouraged to visit www.pictoucountyfuelfund.ca for complete program information and an online application form, or to call the Pictou County Fuel Fund Intake Office at Crime Prevention — 902-755-2886 — Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation can do so through the “Make a Difference: Donate” link on the PCFF website at www.pictoucountyfuelfund.ca.
