Derek Seguin brings his sense of irreverence to Pictou

- KEVIN ADSHADE/THE NEWS

PICTOU, N.S. — Derek Seguin is back with his third one-man show and is launching a tour of the Maritimes. Seguin is best known as Canada’s Top Comic (2015) and an all-time favourite on CBC’s “The Debaters.” The world is changing, and in this show he muses on things like Greta Thunberg, cancel culture, his own kids’ progress and anything else that may have happened to him in the prior week. He appears at the deCoste Performing Arts Centre on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. At age 47, Seguin is of mixed French-Canadian and Irish descent. He’s best known for comedy which plays on the cultural differences between English Canada and French Canada. Seguin had worked hard for the title of Canada’s Top Comic of 2015, having honed his craft for 12 years up to that point and his perseverance paid off, even when odds of success were slim. Half francophone, half Irish anglo, he brings both elements into play with material reflecting his roots, delivered bilingually but hardly in a politically correct manner. The judges obviously loved it, naming him the top comic that year. Seguin is touring the Maritimes with his live and uncensored comedy show which he warns contains mature content. Tickets for the Feb. 14 show can be purchased by contacting the deCoste Box Office between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, at 902485-8848 ext. 1, toll free at 1-800353-5338, in person at 99 Water St., Pictou or online at decostecentre.ca/ tickets. The show is also one that will have the Arts Are For Everyone free show passes available at each of the PictouAntigonish Regional Library, in limited supply, on a first-come, firstserved basis.
