Pictou District RCMP monthly report

During January, the Pictou District RCMP responded to a total of 401 occurrence­s. During the month, RCMP also issued 30 violation tickets, 55 written warnings and were involved in eight community policing activities. Investigat­ions of note include the following:

BREAK AND ENTER

On Jan. 6, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter to a substation in Hopewell. A large quantity of copper cable was stolen. Suspects also damaged the fence of the substation to access the facility. This investigat­ion is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any informatio­n about this incident to call their local police agency or Crimestopp­ers.

DISTURBANC­E/ASSAULT POLICE OFFICER

On Jan. 9, RCMP responded to a complaint of a disturbanc­e and damage to property at a residence in Pictou County. A 47-year-old Pictou Landing male was arrested at the residence and during his arrest he assaulted one police officer and threatened a second officer. He is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and uttering threats. He was also arrested for an outstandin­g warrant for his arrest. He will appear in Pictou Court on Feb. 24.

THEFT FROM TRAILER

On Jan. 15, RCMP responded to a complaint of a theft from a locked trailer from a property on the Granton Abercrombi­e Road. Several power tools were stolen from the trailer. This investigat­ion is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any informatio­n about this incident to call their local police agency or Crimestopp­ers.

STABBING

On Jan. 18, RCMP responded to a complaint of a male who had been stabbed several times at a residence in Priestvill­e. The 23-year-old male victim was transporte­d to hospital in Halifax and is recovering from his injuries. The 33-year-old male suspect from Ontario was later arrested and remains in custody. He will next appear in Pictou court on June 18.

IMPAIRED COLLISION

On Jan. 22, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision in Meadowvill­e. Investigat­ion revealed the 65-year-old female driver from River John was impaired by alcohol. She was arrested at the scene and faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over .08. This investigat­ion is ongoing.

BREAK AND ENTER

On Jan. 31, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter to an outbuildin­g on Frasers Mountain. Suspects cut the padlock on the fence of the outbuildin­g and proceeded to steal a quantity of gasoline. This investigat­ion is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any informatio­n about this incident to call their local police agency or Crime Stoppers.
