Wheels on the bus

Museum of Industry in Stellarton set for a busy week

-

Without a question, it’s the busiest time of the year for the Museum of Industry.

After months of planning and preparation, staff at the Stellarton location are busy putting the final touches on this year’s March break displays. The theme of this year’s March break activities which run from Saturday, March 14, to Sunday, March 22, is Wheels on the Bus.

For Andrew Phillips, curator of education and public programmings, the best part is to see families enjoying the exhibits they’ve spent so much time on.

“It’s great to see it actually active being used and it’s always great to see so many families kids, grandparents and grandkids come in to have fun together,” he said. “People often come back for a second visit over the course of the week.”

Guests to the museum will have the opportunity to hop on and hop off a play bus for a day of adventure and fun.

At the bus, which will be equipped with a real steering wheel and benches, kids can spin a wheel to determine their next location — whether it be laying bricks, fitting pipe or visiting a grocery store.

There will also be some quiet activities in the multipurpose room of the Museum including colouring tables and soft blocks for smaller children, a school bus craft, plus Lego tables for all ages.

The staff have also organized a scavenger hunt with clues hidden in the galleries. Participants will complete a puzzle and collect a prize.

All activities are drop-in, running throughout the day. Museum hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The address is 147 North Foord St., Stellarton. Regular admission fees apply.
