Pictou RCMP monthly report for February
During the month of February, the RCMP responded to a total of 381 occurrences. During the month, RCMP also issued 39 violation tickets, 54 written warnings and were involved in 17 community policing activities.
Investigations of note include the following:
IMPAIRED DRIVER
On Feb. 2, a member of Pictou District RCMP observed a male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle on Three Brooks Road in Braeshore. Investigation at the scene resulted in the 27-year-old male driver from Pictou being arrested for impaired driving. He faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over. 08. He will appear in Pictou court on May 4.
PROHIBITED DRIVER
On Feb. 8, Pictou District RCMP stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Investigation at the scene revealed that the 56-year-old male driver from Judique was prohibited from driving Canadawide. He was arrested and will appear in Pictou court on April 13.
IMPAIRED DRIVER
On Feb. 8, Pictou District RCMP responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle and investigation resulted in the 61-year-old male driver from New Glasgow being arrested for impaired driving. He provided a breath sample, which showed to be over three times the legal limit. He will appear in Pictou court on April 13.
BREAK AND ENTER
On Feb. 9, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter to a residence in Mt. Thom. Several firearms and tools were stolen from the residence. RCMP later recovered several firearms and tools and investigation continues to determine whether the items recovered by police are linked to this break and enter.
APPREHENSION OF BREAK AND ENTER SUSPECTS
On Feb. 13, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter to a business in Saltsprings. Police located the suspect vehicle a short distance from the scene of the break and enter and stopped the vehicle. A quantity of stolen property was located and seized from the vehicle and the driver and passenger were both arrested. The vehicle was seized and police later executed a search warrant at the residence of the vehicle driver, which resulted in a large quantity of stolen property being recovered. The 31-year-old male driver from Lansdowne Station and the 36-year-old male passenger from Rocklin were held in custody and both men face numerous charges including break and enter and possession of stolen property. This investigation is ongoing and several additional charges are expected to be laid.
IMPAIRED COLLISION
On Feb. 13, RCMP responded to a complaint of a single-vehicle collision on Sylvester Road in Durham. Investigation at the scene resulted in the arrest of the 41-year-old female driver from Alma. She faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol percentage over .08.
FLIGHT FROM POLICE
On Feb. 15, RCMP observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 4 near Granton. RCMP activated the emergency equipment on the police vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle, which did not stop. The vehicle turned into a driveway on Alma Road and the driver fled on foot. The driver was later identified and is charged with six Motor Vehicle Act infractions, including driving while revoked and driving without a licence. This investigation is ongoing.
IMPAIRED DRIVER/ REFUSAL TO PROVIDE BREATH SAMPLE
On Feb. 17, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Murray Lane, in Chance Harbour. Investigation at the scene resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired driving. The 50-year-old male driver from Trenton refused to provide a breath sample. He faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and refusal to provide a breath sample. He will appear in Pictou court on April. 13.
FLIGHT FROM POLICE
On Feb. 21, RCMP were conducting a check stop near Highway 104 in Pinetree. A vehicle was observed fleeing the location of the check stop. Police later identified the driver and located the vehicle. The 20-year-old male driver from Avondale was arrested at his residence. He faces charges of flight from police, dangerous driving and failing to comply with his undertaking. He will appear in Pictou court on April 20.
BREAK AND ENTER/ASSAULT
On Feb. 27, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter and assault which had occurred at a residence in Pictou County. The homeowner advised that he had heard a sound by the door of the residence and observed an unknown male standing in the doorway. The male then proceeded to spray the homeowner with bear spray and fled to a waiting vehicle. The suspect has not been identified and nothing was taken from the residence during this incident. This investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call your local police or Crime Stoppers.
