Pictou Landing First Nation is closed to anyone who lives outside of the community as a precaution against the spread of Covid19.

Communty members are still allowed in and out for essential items and services, but only between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Exeptions are for those with a medical emergency.

Anyone living outside of PLFN is prohibited from entering and security checkpoints are enforcing the lockdown on both roads leading to the community.

“Please respect that,” said PLFN Chief, Andrea Paul. “We don’t mean to hurt any feelings, however our safety is prioirty. Our elders, our children, and our community members are our utmost prioirty.”

Store delivery, mail and health staff are only permitted entry through the security checkpoints, and anyone making an unscheuled delivery to a PLFN resident can leave their delivery at the checkpoint and it will be brought to their home.

The PLFN community health centre is taking calls 24/7 for perscription refills, perscription pick-ups and medical transportation.

There are also five mental health and wellness clinicians are being made available to the community by phone.

Nova Scotia is currently under a state of emergency.

Anyone travelling into the province must self-isloate for 14-days and people are being asked to avoid travelling outside of Nova Scotia and should only leave their homes for essential items and services. All provincal parks and beaches are closed and anyone who is not practicing self-isolation can face an RCMP fine of $1,000.
