NIAGARA FALLS LIBRARY

As we approach the month of August, we think about the last few weeks of summer camping and fun outdoors. During the month of August at the Victoria Avenue Library, you can experience bits of history from our local Scout Museum in our display case, as well as great local artistic talent in our Rosberg Gallery, sponsored by the Niagara District Art Association.

If you’re feeling a bit too hot in August, come on over to the Chippawa Library on Wednesday, August 3 at 6 p.m., cool off for a bit and enjoy the film screening of Barbershop: The Next Cut. It’s been more than 10 years since the last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin and his longtime crew are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, the once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. Barbershop: The Next Cut is a comedy starring Ice Cube, Anthony Anderson and Nicki Minaj. It runs for 102 minutes and is rated 14A. Don’t forget your popcorn and drinks.

An afternoon at the Victoria Library might be just what children need on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. for the movie Megamind. The supervillain Megamind finally defeats his nemesis, the superhero Metro Man. But without a hero, he loses all purpose and must find new meaning to his life. Megamind runs for 96 minutes and is rated PG.

Stamford Centre Library is the place to be for some free, dropin fun on Tuesday, August 2 at 2:30 p.m. Something new and wild awaits adventurers each week at the library! Drop in for a variety of activities, games and hands-on explorations. Drop-in programs are designed for children ages 6 to 12. There is no registration required.

If you like a good mystery, you’ll be eager to check out our newest arrivals. Linda Castillo returns with Among the Wicked and her star character, Chief of Police, Kate Burkholder. Kate is called upon by the sheriff’s department in rural, upstate New York to assist on a developing situation that involves a reclusive Amish settlement and the death of a young girl. Kate infiltrates the community and goes deep undercover. In the coming days, she unearths a world built on secrets, a series of shocking crimes, and herself, alone... trapped in a fight for her life. From New York Times’ bestselling southern crime master, Ace Atkins, comes a gritty, darkly comic tale of greed violence and unexpected redemption in The innocents. Finally, for mystery readers and dog lovers alike, National bestselling author David Rosenfelt returns with Outfoxed.
