Looking for a great read? Fall is bringing a cornucopia of new books from some truly great writers. Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer explores questions of identity, family and competing allegiances among a Washington, D.C. family. This is Foer’s first novel in 11 years, and a much anticipated follow up to his critically acclaimed works Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Ian McEwan’s new novel, Nutshell, is a story of love and betrayal told from the point of view of a truly novel witness — an unborn baby. Early reviews are excellent for this new book from the author of Atonement. Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth is a family epic spanning five decades that explores inspiration and the ownership of stories. Patchett’s previous books include State of Wonder and the Orange Prize winner Bel Canto.

There’s nothing like a really good memoir — a compelling story told by the person who lived it. Amy Schumer’s The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo made headlines last year for the advance the publishers paid. It came out last week and reviews suggest this hilarious first collection of essays was worth the price. Coming in September is Born to Run, the autobiography of Bruce Springsteen. While there have been many books about Springsteen written by others, this is the first time Bruce has told his own story. Also in September, look for John Le Carré’s The Pigeon Tunnel, the first memoir from the British Intelligence Officer turned spy novelist.
