Burgoyne Bridge needs protection for pedestrians

-

We all know about the financial overruns and record-keeping fiascos of this bridge, but that is for others to solve. My concern was something I observed while crossing this bridge.

There was a young lady pushing an infant in a carriage, and I realized there was no pedestrian barricade to protect citizens from errant vehicles that could easily jump the shallow curb. There is also no protection against snow or water splashes.

I hope the city realizes that should a car or truck mount this curb, and injuries or death occur, a lawsuit will surely follow. This letter should stand as a warning to Niagara Region that the absence of a safety barrier is unacceptable.

I have been notified that no protective barrier is planned. It is time for “fight or flight.” George Pilkington St. Catharines
