Each year in the Niagara Five-Pin Mixed Pro League season, a number of bowlers will have some great nights and, usually at some point, a couple of bowlers may even have some fantastic nights. What is even rarer is when an entire team will put together a night for the ages. The Host Pub & Grill Half Pints had just one of those nights.

On their way to blanking the Wine Place Whiners 3-0, the Half Pints collectively etched their names into the Canadian Five-Pin Bowlers Association record books as well as raising the bar in a few areas of the league’s history and season’s achievements. Their second game score of 1,291 tied a national record for the highest single game by a four-member mixed team, and also broke the league record by two pins.

Their team triple (3,412) was the second-highest team triple thrown in the league’s history. The Half Pints record setting evening was sparked by Matt Kowalyk who rolled the second-highest men’s triple of the year, a blistering 983 (350, 351, 282).

He was followed by Tracy Smith who tossed the women’s third-best set of the season, a sizzling 908 (297, 336, 275) while Sarah Stevens added 826 (280, 298, 248) and Fern French rounded things out for the Half Pints with a solid 695 (219, 306).

The Whiners shot back with Matt Burghall’s stellar 875 (348, 255, 272) and Al Gaudet’s 734 (259, 246).

In other matches, the Smith’s HomeServicesRavenswhitewashed the Church Street Pete’s Pizza Panzerottis 3-0. Riekie Dutcher paced the winners with a solid 738 (218, 305) while being pushed along by Jason Pendlebury’s 731 (233, 280) and rich Vassos who checked in with 706 (259, 249).
