LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Demolish residence at Roselawn

-

As a senior taxpayer of Port Colborne, I would request city council be more frugal with taxpayers’ money.

This year’s five per cent increase in our property taxes is an example.

Currently consideration is being given to refurbishing the old Steele family home which is part of the Roselawn Theatre location. The city took over ownership of this property from the private sector at the request of its occupants, something it never should have done.

At that time I was assured by then-mayor Vance Badawey that the city had best keep away from being a landlord to the endeavours of any group within the city.

It’s an outdated residence that should be levelled and then the needs of the theatre could be addressed in a more practical and frugal manner.
