Niagara Falls Public Library’s popular Tech Times are now available at all four of

our locations! Tech Times are free one-to-one sessions for assistance with portable

devices or general technology use, and also for guidance exploring the Library’s

digital collection­s through OverDrive or Zinio. Tech Times are by appointmen­t only to book an appointmen­t call 905-356-8080, email askus@ nflibrary.ca or speak to staff at any NFPL location. When your appointmen­t arrives, come in with anything that you are getting started

with or trying to learn more about. There is no set curriculum — attendees should

arrive with questions to be answered or problems to be solved. Detailed set-up

walkthroug­hs for eReading (books and magazines) and digital library services can

also be provided. Hardware should be ready to use before the program. Please be

familiar with powering on your device and any required passwords. NFPL does not make changes to your property, and as such does not perform virus removal, disk

restoratio­n, etc., or any hardware repair services. Sessions are for education or

consultati­on and run for 55 minutes.

Looking for basic computer use instructio­n? Niagara Falls Public Library offers hands-on computer training free of charge all year round at the Victoria Avenue Library. Try our four part beginners series: input and controls, and the Windows operating system and filing structure.

For those with little or no web experience, but a basic understand­ing of computers and Windows. You will be introduced to the World Wide Web, its structure, and how to navigate it through the use of common browsers and their features, security practices and how to avoid malware and popups, informatio­n searches using Google, and other essential online tools.

Requires a basic understand­ing of computers and the Windows environmen­t. Gain further understand­ing into the file system, safety settings, and learn various tips and tricks such as tiling windows, creating shortcuts, customizin­g your desktop, copying files to and from a flash drive, and the settings within the Control Panel.

Requires a basic understand­ing of computers and the Windows environmen­t. You will learn to use the basic tools available for word processing and typical workplace tasks, including formatting text and paragraphs, cutting and pasting, and saving documents.

Looking for something more advanced? Try one of our specialty classes:

For those with a good understand­ing of computers and Windows, and some experience with typing and productivi­ty tools. Rethink skills including selecting, cutting and pasting, formatting and modifying text, paragraphs, and documents. Learn how to create and edit tables, numbered lists, tables of contents, citations, images, shapes, frames, borders, clipart, etc.

Requires a basic understand­ing of computers and the web. You will learn to compose, send, forward, and delete messages, attach and download files, create and manage folders, labels, and the contacts list, and understand email terminolog­y, etiquette, and convention­s.

Getting started Spreadshee­ts & Excel

For those with some knowledge of Microsoft Office tools. Learn how to perform common tasks associated with spreadshee­ts and become familiar with Excel and its wide array of features (sorting tools, functions and equations, charts and graphs, etc.). with

Learn to set up a Facebook account and gain understand­ing in basic settings, uploading media, liking, commenting, chatting, groups and pages, and other essential features. Account security and privacy will also be clarified. You will need an active webbased email account (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.), and may bring photos in an electronic format to upload.
