Travolta donates vintage jet

-

John Travolta has donated his beloved vintage Boeing 707 jet plane to an Australian aviation museum.

The actor is gifting his aircraft, which was once owned by Frank Sinatra, to the country’s Historical Aircraft Restoration Society.

Travolta, 63, hopes restorers from the society can make the plane, originally delivered to Qantas Airways in 1964, fit to fly again so he can deliver it personally to the HARS museum in New South Wales, Australia.

“It gives me great pleasure to make this exciting historical announcement that my beloved Boeing 707 aircraft has been donated” to the museum, Travolta said.

“The aircraft currently requires a lot of work to be restored to a safe flying state and having seen first hand the dedication and passion of people at HARS, I have no doubt this beautiful and historical aircraft will be flying again …

“I am hoping to be part of the crew to fly the aircraft to Australia, supported by well qualified and experienced pilots and engineers.”

The plane will be restored at Travolta’s Florida home before he and his expert crew fly it to its new destination.

The Pulp Fiction star earned his private pilot’s licence at just 22, and now acts as an ambassador for Qantas. After he became a spokesperson for the Australian airline he had the vintage 707 repainted in its original 1964 Qantas colours.

Sinatra owned the plane from 1972 to 1975. Travolta registered the aircraft as his own in 1998.
