The City of Niagara Falls recreation committee held its second annual Garage Sale at the Gale Saturday.

The event, held at Gale Centre, saw a large turnout this year and raised more than $2,000 for the city’s Activity Subsidy Fund, which provides subsidies for different sports and recreation across the city.

Beth Angle, community development co-ordinator for the city’s recreation and culture department, said the event attracted more than 100 vendors.

“It looks like buyers have been pretty steady since eight o’clock,” said Angle.

The Animal Assistance Society of Niagara was one of the vendors there raising money for its own cause.

“It’s a great way to kick off the summer … there’s quite a collection of stuff here,” said Anthony Savoia, a volunteer with the organization.

Angle said the garage sale is the brainchild of the city’s recreation committee and hopes for continued growth in future years.

She said the money raised for the subsidy fund comes from the sale of spots to vendors.
