Expos stay hot in Niagara Senior Men’s League

- COREY LEBLANC SPECIAL TO POSTMEDIA NEWS

Barbeque grills, summer days and The Niagara Falls Expos all have on thing in common. They’re all blistering hot. Take note of the Expos, they take the top spot in week seven, while the race for the pennant heats up in the Niagara Senior Men’s Baseball League.

The Expos continued their winning ways by snapping the Welland Chiefs’ five-game win streak on Wednesday night in a 7-1 beatdown.

Rose City Thorns scored 10 runs against the Niagara Falls Falcons Juniors this week to pull their record back above .500. Even at 6-5, it’s hard to imagine this team will be going anywhere considering their run production.

Falcons on the other hand, had an up and down week. Losing at Oakes Park on Monday night to the Rose City Thorns before defeating the Cobras at George Taylor Field two nights later.

Niagara Falls did, however, manage to play two games in an otherwise rainy week. The Fort Erie Cannons, Thorold Fantoms and Merritton Alliance were all kept from the field over the last 7 days. For the Fantoms, two rainouts in the same week makes four on the season (most in the league) and the hunt for their first win of the year rolls over to week eight.

For our feature game in week seven, we visit George Taylor Field for the first time this year when the St. Catharines Cobras hosted the Niagara Falls Falcons Juniors on a pleasantly dry Wednesday night.
