Got a flair for social media? You could be up for an award later this year at The Socials.

Formed by the new non-profit Niagara Socials Committee (NSC), the Dec. 6 awards will celebrate the online efforts of local creators, businesses and influencers. The nine categories include Outstanding Photography, Outstanding Personal Blog and Excellence in Engagement.

“I truly believe that social media will be one of the leading ways as to how businesses and creators promote and run themselves,” says NSC chairman and co-creator Matt Anthony. “Being a musician and artist, I know how valuable social media is when trying to promote or capture the attention of certain target markets.”

Applications are open until Sept. 15 at www.niagarasocials.com, with a nomination party to follow Sept. 27. Locations to be announced.

Anthony says all aspects of social media, from Facebook to YouTube to Instagram, will be considered.

“You could be an up-and-coming YouTuber who loves to create videos, or a brand new start up company who is trying to get their start,” he says. “It is with this diversity that we can bring a unique element to the awards ceremony - something that can bridge the gap between new and older brands with business owners in the Niagara community.” jlaw@postmedia.com
