Fallen geese mourned as community fixtures at Halifax memorial
HALIFAX — Dozens of mourners marched in the rain to pay their respects to two foul-tempered fixtures of a Halifax community — a pair of geese who were run down at a crosswalk.
Organizer Katy Jean estimated some 75 residents of Dartmouth, an independent enclave across the harbour from the city’s core, braved the downpour Saturday evening to memorialize the fallen geese of Sullivan’s Pond.

Toronto police say that after an officer bought an alleged shoplifter the clothes he was trying to steal for a job interview, the teenager got the job.
Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a Walmart in the city’s north end last week, where they found the details of the case to be somewhat unusual.
The would-be thief had attempted met their end.
Memorial attendees fastened flowers to poles on either side of the crosswalk where three geese were hit by a motorist last week.
Police say one of the geese survived, but the other two were killed in the collision.
The duo was part of a gaggle of nine geese that’s known to waddle across that particular crosswalk.
Jean says Saturday’s “lighthearted memorial” was meant for the Dartmouth community to mourn the beloved if sometimes snappy geese and send a message about road safety. to steal a long-sleeved shirt, a tie and a pair of socks.
The officer involved, Const. Niran Jeyanesan, says such items are not common targets for shoplifters.
Jeyanesan says he decided to buy the clothes for the teenager after learning that he needed them for a job interview.
On Saturday morning, police announced that the 18-year-old had landed the job in the “service industry” and is set to start work soon.
