The TD Summer Reading Club has wrapped up, and we are so proud to announce a record-setting number this year: 1,245 readers participat­ed at all four of our library locations as well as at parks, pools and child care centres across the city. Thanks go out to all of our sponsors this year — our nationwide title sponsor TD, and our local sponsors Avondale Food Stores, Wendy’s, Kumon Niagara Falls, VIA Rail, Niagara Falls YMCA, Michael’s, Niagara Falls Museums, Bird Kingdom, and HOCO/Clifton Hill.

Sept. 18-22 is Science Literacy Week. We are celebratin­g with libraries and other educationa­l institutio­ns and museums across the country. Visit our website for more informatio­n on our Science Literacy fun such as Hour of Code, Lego Robotics, Cardboard Creations, Craft Lab and Robot Lab. And to top it all off, we have Club Rex joining us on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Victoria Avenue Library. Club Rex is a travelling dinosaur museum, complete with fossils and dino poop. Kids get to learn all about these amazing creatures while having the opportunit­y to get hands-on with the fossils.

NFHS finds homes for animals in need and reunites lost pets with their owners. The shelter is located at 6025 Chippawa Pkwy. Visit the website at www.nfhs.ca.

Lindsay Dressel, Director of Community Relations at Willoughby Manor presents “Senior Residences - Making the Right Decision” at the Victoria Avenue Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Join us as Lindsay helps navigate the sometimes difficult process of choosing a senior residence.

“The Wall” (2017, 90 minutes, Rated 14A) will be showing at the Chippawa Library on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. Directed by Doug Liman and starring Aaron TaylorJohn­son, John Cena, and Laith Nakli, “The Wall” tells the story of Two American Soldiers who are trapped by a lethal sniper, with only an unsteady wall between them.

Movies are free and no registrati­on is required. Bring your own snacks!

“Megan Leavey” (2017, 116 minutes, Rated PG) will be on screen at the Victoria Avenue Library on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Starring Kate Mara, Tom Felton, Ramon Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, Will Patton, Edie Falco, Geraldine James, Marko Caka, “Megan Leavey” is based on the true life story of a young marine corporal whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during she isn’t shy when she’s looking for affection and will come right to you. Once she has establishe­d a comfort zone, she can be very chatty. Brandy loves catnip and will roll around to play with her toys. She enjoys long naps in her bed, chin rubs, and treats.

Come on out on Sept. 17 at the their deployment in Iraq. When she is assigned to clean up the K9 unit after a disciplina­ry hearing, Leavey identifies with a particular­ly aggressive dog, Rex, and is given the chance to train him. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy.

We are looking for teens to join our Teen Advisory Group! The TAG will plan fun programs at the library, build leadership skills, and earn community involvemen­t hours. Registrati­on is not required - just head down to the Victoria Avenue Library on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 3:45 p.m. (or whenever you can get there) and join in on th fun. Snacks will be provided!

We are currently in dire need for donations of dry, non-coloured, cat and kitten food. Any donation is greatly appreciate­d and may be dropped off at the main shelter.
