Mazda will preview the future of its design at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show
Mazda is ready to peel back the covers of two new concepts at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.
The first concept, Mazda says, is a compact hatchback previewing the next generation of a production model. Underpinned by an all-new platform and Mazda’s new Skyactiv-X gasoline engine, the teaser image strongly suggests we’re looking at the next-generation Mazda3.
Mazda’s second, Tokyo-bound concept is a bit more pie-in-thesky. Not much is known about it, other than Mazda billing it as a “design vision model” and promising it “will define the next generation of Mazda design” — essentially an evolution of the company’s Kodo design language.
Along with the two concepts, Mazda’s Japan-only CX-8 — a sleeker variant of the CX-9 — plus a special edition MX-5 Miata will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
Mitsubishi has dropped another teaser of the e-Evolution concept, now promising a whole host of advanced driving features.
The Japanese automaker says the concept will feature an artificial intelligence system, employing sensors to monitor road and traffic conditions up ahead, all in the name of “seamlessly co-ordinating driver intent with vehicle performance.”
In fact, it seems as though the e-Evolution concept will emphasize a surprising amount of performance, as the AI system will also offer a “training program” of sorts, analyzing the driver’s skills and offering tips and pointers based on those evaluations through the infotainment system. It can also control certain functions through voice commands, including windshield wipers, climate control, and lighting.
Mitsubishistillhasn’tannounced full powertrain details, but we know a total of three high-torque, high-performance electric motors will power the e-Evolution. Those motors will be coupled to a “highcapacity battery.”
We’ll bring you full details on Mitsubishi’s e-Evolution concept from the Tokyo Motor Show, which runs October 28 to November 5.
