Bowlers swept up in winning

- JEFF STEVENS POSTMEDIA NEWS

With two weeks to go in the opening segment of the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League, the standings are as tight as they have ever been, so this would be a good time for a team to go on a run and try and widen a lead or close the gap between themselves and the team ahead of them.

Half of the league got the memo as all matches were 3-0 sweeps this week.

In the first one, Chantal Papineau was a model of consistency, as she rolled the second highest set of the season, a lane-scorching 919 (315, 298, 306) to lead the Crossfire Wrestling Piledrivers to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Lakeside Electrical Lightning.

Frank Newman lent a helping hand, rolling 677 (239) while Joanne Durocher was right behind with 671 (276) for the winners.

Tyler Wendel was no slouch himself, leading the Lightning response with a fantastic 866 (301, 327, 238) while Dave Pendlebury contributed 715 (234, 261).

Elsewhere, Rob Fisher tossed the highest set on the men’s side so far this year as his sizzling 912 (362, 231, 319) was the spark needed by the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks as they blanked the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints 3-0.

Fisher was pushed along by Rob MacDonald’s 732 (276, 256).

The Half Pints shot back with Norm Stup’s 796 (292, 230, 274) and Shawn Pellizari’s 792 (314, 245, 233).

The Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers also got some big sets as they handled the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads 3-0, led by Chris Disher who continued on his torrid pace, leading the winners with an excellent 840 (273, 349, 218) while getting help from Sara Kennedy who continued her superb rookie season, with a solid 815 (308, 208, 299).

John Wendel chipped in with 681 (224, 246). The Hammerheads responded with Paul Asselin’s fantastic 848 (293, 313, 242) the Hall of Famer’s fifth 800 series in the last seven weeks. Asselin was helped along by P.J. Cole’s 684 (233, 235).

In the evening’ s final match the Wine Place Whiners took all three games against the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic. Trish Aubertin led the Whiners with her best output of the season so far, a fine 786 (210, 264, 312) while getting help from Matt Kowalyk’s 739 (225, 232, 282).

The Magic reply was led by Brian McFarlane who returned to form with his best night of the season, a standup 821 (327, 225, 269).
