Halloween star pegged for Falls Comic Con

- JOHN LAW

The original Michael Myers is coming to the Niagara Falls Comic Con.

Nick Castle, who played the horror icon in 1978’s classic Halloween, will be at all three days of the 2018 event, June 1 to 3.

Castle, who was paid $25 a day while shooting the film, played the relentless killer in the first Halloween film, but none of the sequels until now. He returns to the role for next year’s direct sequel to the original 1978 film, reuniting him with star Jamie Lee Curtis. Original director John Carpenter will be executive director.

Made for just $300,000, Halloween is one of the most successful and influential horror films in movie history. It also spawned the ‘slasher era’ in horror, leading to copycats like Friday the 13th, Prom Night and My Bloody Valentine.

Niagara Falls Comic Con has had horror legends such as Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) and Kane Hodder (Jason, Friday the 13th) in the past. Co-founder Chris Dabrowski says Castle, as Myers, is one of the most “recognizable faces of all time” in the genre.

“The original Halloween movie celebrates its 40th anniversary next year,” he says. “We’re lucky and excited Castle has agreed to come to Niagara Falls as part of what I’m sure will be a busy convention year for him.”

Castle has also directed such films as The Last Starfighter (1984) and Mr. Wrong (1996). As a writer he co-wrote Escape From New York for Carpenter and Hook for Steven Spielberg.

Other horror guests at next year’s Comic Con include Michael Rooker (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Walking Dead), Wilford Brimley (The Thing) and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Tickets start at $24.95, available through www.niagarafallscomiccon.com.
