Niagara RiverHawks drop two games
More offence is on the top of the RiverHawks’ wish list after dropping a pair of games by the scores of 2-1 and 3-2 to the Hagersville Hawks and the Dunnville Mudcats respectively in PJHL hockey action. The RiverHawks offence has sputtered as of late as they have lost three games in a row.
On Thursday night at Gale Centre, after a scoreless first period, Hagersville scored the only goal of the second period by Nick Chariot.
Hagersville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third before RiverHawks’ leading scorer Baily Pritchard put the RiverHawks on the board with his 12th goal of the year at 9:30 of the period. That was as close as the RiverHawks would get as Hagersville held on for the 2-1 win.
RiverHawks outshot Hagersville 32- 31 overall with Sebastian Iannone making 29 saves in the loss.
Friday night the Riverhawks travelled to Dunnville to take on the Mudcats.
Jacob Saddler opened the scoring at 16:55 of the first period to give the Riverhawks a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Dunnville’s Evan Ridley tied the game early in the second period as the teams went into the second intermission tied at 1-1.
Dunnville’s Connor Schmaltz scored a pair of goals in the third to give the Mudcats a 3- 1 lead. Saddler scored his second of the game to bring the RiverHawks within one.
Dunnville held on for the 3-2 victory.
Dunnville outshot the RiverHawks 43-40 overall with Gabe Maskaluk making 40 saves in the losing effort for the RiverHawks.
The RiverHawks now sit in sixth place with a 8-14-3-3 record for 22 points in the PJHL’s Bloomfield division, trailing Dunnville (1016-2-1)(23 points) by a point and ahead of Hagersville (9-17-2) (20 points) by a pair.
The RiverHawks have 14 games remaining in the regular season.
The Glanbrook Rangers continue to hold down first place with a 27-2-0-1 record for 55 points followed closely by Grimsby (26-3-01) with 53 points.
