Green party nominates candidate

Karen Fraser, a longtime member who has been involved behind the scenes in past elections, has been nominated to represent the Green party in Niagara Falls riding next June.

The party announced Wednesday that Fraser, 65, had been nominated to run in the June provincial election.

Fraser has been a member of both the federal and provincial wings of the Green party since 2005, serving as campaign manager to former Green candidates

Kay Green, Shawn Willick, Steven Soos, and Melanie Mullen. Fraser also ran provincial­ly for the Green party candidate in Milton in 2010 and St. Catharines in 2014.

An active member of the communitys. Fraser has held posts with organizati­ons such as the Unemployme­nt Insurance Commission (now Ontario Works), H&R Block and was chair of the Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Committee for 10 of her 18 years as a member. She says she has spearheade­d many events promoting local talent which includes leading the committee to establish the Niagara Falls Arts and Culture Wall of Fame.

In a media release, Fraser says if she is elected she will focus on affordable, fair and accessible housing; environmen­tal protection and sustainabl­e developmen­t, access to health care, and the creation of full-time jobs.
