Hoping for a restored watershed

Re A fish tale we all must heed: If trout could talk, what would they tell us about Twelve Mile Creek, by Cheryl Clock, Jan.

Good article. I am very glad to see that some people still care about the creek. As a child I used to go with my mother to visit her best friend who lived on a farm in what is now Short Hills Provincial Park. I’d go for walks in the area, including along the Twelve.

The road in is now part of the main entrance to the park off Pelham Road. I still go for walks along the Twelve.

Back in 1995 I founded the Friends of the Twelve Mile Creek. It flourished for a few years, but alas became defunct. I had to leave it a few years after founding it as first my mother and then my father got Alzheimer’s. Four or five years ago I tried to restart it, but there wasn’t any interest.

I hope the efforts by the people interviewed keep up and the head waters are preserved and the whole watershed restored. Peter D.A. Warwick St. Catharines
