R’Hawks drop 8th in a row

-

The Niagara RiverHawks host the Dundas Blues Saturday hoping to accomplish more than evening the season series at five points apiece.

A victory in the 7:30 p.m. faceoff at Gale Centre would also put the Provincial Junior Hockey League team in the win column for the first time in more than a month.

On Thursday, the RiverHawks allowed six goals in the second period dropping an 8-4 decision on the road to Dundas to extend their losing skid to eight games.

Jacob Saddler, with two goals, Bailey Pritchard and Mason Durant scored for the RiverHawks, whose last victory was Dec. 9 when they doubled the Dunnville Mudcats 4-2 at home.

Niagara, which fell to 8-19-3-3 in league play, was outshot 37-28 by Blues, 19-5-0-0.

Both teams excelled on special teams, though only when they didn’t have a man advantage. Niagara finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play and Dundas 0-for-13 as the two teams combined to amass 153 penalty minutes on 37 infractions.

The RiverHawks were assessed 22 penalties, for a total of 85 minutes, while the Blues served 68 minutes in the sin bin on 15 calls.

Despite the difference in the South Bloomfield Division standings between third-place Dundas and seventh-place Niagara, the Blues only lead the season series two wins to one, five points to three.

The teams skated to a 4-4 tie in the opening game of head-tohead play Oct. 29 in Dundas.
