Stolen car lands in Niagara River

The driver of a stolen car that ended up in the Niagara River on Tuesday night is being sought by Niagara Regional Police.

At about 11:50 p.m., officers were called to the area of Phipps and Crooks streets in Fort Erie for reports of a collision.

NRP spokespers­on Stephanie Sabourin said the initial investigat­ion revealed that two vehicles collided near the Niagara Parkway and Emerick Avenue before one of them entered the river. The driver fled the scene on foot. Officers from District No. 5 continue to investigat­e the incident.
