Iorfida named NHBA executive

- RICHARD HUTTON METROLAND

Dean Iorfida is back.

More than a year after he was terminated from his position of clerk for the City of Niagara Falls, it was announced Thursday that the veteran municipal employee has joined the Niagara District Homebuilders Association as its executive officer.

Iorifida said he was looking forward to the challenge.

“I have no outstanding issues with the city,” Iorfida said. “I’ve moved on.”

He came across the opening with the board just before Christmas last year.

“It appealed to me. There were enough similarities to what I was doing as a clerk and some new things I might find challenging as well.”

Some of the things Iorfida will be doing on behalf of association members include liaising with stakeholders, politicians and municipal staff, providing governance advice and fulfilling the strategic direction approved by the organization.

His job will be to act as an advocate for the association and its membership.

Niagara District Homebuilders Association (NHBA) president Jonathan Whyte called Iorfida a good fit for the organization, whose membership includes homebuilders, developers, renovators, suppliers, contractors, manufacturers, and allied professionals.

“With his experience and understanding of the issues affecting our industry we’re confident Dean can help to increase our profile and raise awareness of housing related issues in the Niagara Region,” Whyte said. “Housing costs are outpacing inflation and wage growth as a result of increased regulations, supply shortages, and taxation of housing, and consumers are paying the price.”

Iorfida was employed for 22 years, working for the City of Niagara Falls in several capacities, including the past 16 as clerk.
