Ontario PC leader Doug Ford is scheduled to visit Niagara Falls this week.

Ford is set to attend an event Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Oakes Ballroom at Marriott on the Falls hotel on Fallsview Boulevard, according to a press release issued by Niagara Falls PC candidate Chuck McShane. Doors open at 6 p.m. Free parking will be available.

McShane is aiming to defeat Niagara Falls incumbent NDP MPP Wayne Gates in the June 7 provincial election.

The release states McShane believes it takes more than “an affable smile” to see “real results” across Niagara.

The release points to the latest CBC poll tracker, which gives the PC party a 92.6 per cent probability of winning a majority government, and that the riding of Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie “need someone representative of the party in power at Queen’s Park.”

Despite that poll and other polls suggesting the Tories are well positioned to form the next government, McShane said the party can’t rest on its laurels.

“I don’t look at the polls — honestly that’s not what drives me,” he said.

“Polls can say one thing, we’ve all seen them before. However, I just want to get out there and work hard, meet the people, find out what their problems are. I’m not going to be driven by polls, I’m going to be driven by the great people of this region.”

McShane said he looks forward to welcoming Ford to Niagara Falls for the first time since the former Toronto city councillor became PC leader.

Ford has already visited other cities in Niagara.
