Home, garden leisure show taking root in Chippawa

- ALISON LANGLEY

Chippawa-Willoughby Memorial Arena will be transformed later this week for the inaugural Chippawa Home Garden and Leisure Show.

The three-day event will feature almost 40 exhibitors presenting home improvement and outdoor living ideas as well as travel and pet-care information.

The show is the brainchild of executive producer DeShaun Jones, a Toronto native who has called Chippawa home for the past four years.

“Chippawa has such a rich history,” he said. “My focus is to grow the show, to bring people to discover Chippawa.”

The event, presented by Keybase Financial, is also a fundraiser for both Autism Ontario Niagara and Project SHARE.

“Both have a personal connection to me and my family,” Jones said.

“My youngest daughter has autism and I have always wanted to give back to Autism Ontario Niagara for their support and because of the lack of financial support from public and private sectors.”

“I support food banks because I, at a low point in my life, had to rely on a food bank to help my family when I was laid off from work. It’s important to help when and where we can.”

The Chippawa Home Garden and Leisure Show at the Sodom Road arena runs Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Special features will include an artisan’s alley featuring handmade products and crafts as well as a demonstration by Niagara dog trainer Dave McMahon.

Admission is free with a bag of non-perishable items in support of Project SHARE.
