The gags will continue at the Garden City Comedy Festival as the event returns for a second year this week.

Founder and local comic David Green says a bigger budget and expanded lineup are the result of a successful first year. Again, shows will take place at the Showtime Comedy club and FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in downtown St. Catharines.

“If we can get through the first couple years, it’s only going to get stronger from there,” he says.

Several of the region’s top comics will kick off the festival Thursday with the Niagara Comedy All Stars at Showtime, headlined by Tony Vendetti and featuring and featuring Green, Jeffrey Stroop and MC Alex Kazam. It will benefit Pathstone Mental Health at $15 per ticket.

Friday will see The Doo Wops at Showtime, hosted by Niagara comic Joe Pillitteri. Patrick Alexander and Michelle Zhitomirsky will also be featured. Tickets are $20.

The festival’s main event will be the Gala Night Saturday at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, featuring Chantel Marostica, Chris Robinson and headliner Sean Cullen. Niagara’s Marc Sinodinos will host. Tickets are $30.

An after-show party will be held at Showtime starting at 10:30 p.m.

All other shows start at 8 p.m.
