Port Colborne Country Club a “New Era” has begun…

-

1929and is long past, but what still remains are the rich history new beginnings that the Port Colborne Country Club is built upon. Numerous changes and alterations have occurred throughout the years at Port Colborne Country Club; however the original six of the first nine holes dated back from the 1930’s are still played today. Numbers and yardage may change but not the history that this club was built upon. We take pride of our history at Port Colborne Country Club which dates back to the early years of 1929, on August 15th Port Colborne Country Club held its first official meeting regarding this up and coming club. Within a two week period the 107 acre Ezra Neff farm on Morgans Point Road was purchased for $8,500. It was later agreed that an added 16 acres would be purchased to incorporate enough land for an 18 hole golf course. Although purchasing the land for the club was only just the beginning. Many changes have come over the years, and many more are on the way, all for the better of our members and guests who have been so loyal to the Port Colborne Country Club throughout its entire existence. The #NEWERA New changes and faces have made there way into the Port Colborne Country Club. Allan Billyard, Sandy Billyard, and Nick Durbano became the new owners in December of 2017. All three were previously involved in the operations of constructing other various golf courses in the Niagara Region. But this time, they embraced an established golf club full of rich history. Allan who watched Peninsula Lakes Golf Club develop into a twenty seven hole course, and Sandy who oversaw Hunters Pointe Golf Club’s construction in 2000. These three men are now overseeing the massive renovations that have undergone at the Port Colborne Country Club. Their years of experience and expertise are now being put into their efforts to make the Port Colborne Country Club outstanding. With the history already well established at the Port Colborne Country Club, the primary focus is to mold this history into the improvements, and updates that have been made, in order to begin the new era at Port Colborne Country Club. With all of the updates taking place for the buildings, some changes and updates on the course were also taken to action. Plans are in place to make the course more playable and enjoyable for the senior members, handicap, and guests who come to play at the Port Colborne Country Club. New Course Superintendent Jim Nicholls has also made plans to have some trees cleared in order to achieve a more playable and friendly course to accommodate to our players. The club has been very busy with many weekly restaurant events, Junior Clinics, lessons, and tournaments. Many of the updates to the clubhouse, pro shop, halfway house and course have allowed the success of these events throughout the spring season, extending into the summer and fall. Through the change in ownership of the Port Colborne Country Club, the course is no longer a member operated club like it once was. But, through this change the members have stayed committed to the club, keeping a very strong membership. The support from the local community, current members and past members who have rejoined has been outstanding. Tom Vanderlip, the clubs General Manager, has also found this positive response overwhelming. Many people have come up to Tom Vanderlip expressing the amazing updates that has improved Port as a whole. Overall Allan, Sandy, Nick, and Tom are extremely satisfied with the new changes to the Port Colborne Country Club. If you have not yet visited, you will be amazed at the transformation of the restaurant and we encourage you to stop in for breakfast lunch or dinner. The restaurant and golf course is open to the public and would love to host your next family celebration or corporate function.
