Gearing up for another Garage Sale at the Gale
You can cruise the city looking for garage sales next Saturday, or you can find 90 of them in one spot.
The city’s third annual Garage Sale at the Gale June 23 will once again have residents selling their wares in the arena’s parking lot, raising funds for the city’s Activity Subsidy Fund which helps subsidize the cost of recreation activities for families.
Beth Angle of the city’s Department of Recreation & Culture says the event has been a hit with sellers and buyers alike since it debuted in 2016.
“There are lot of people who live in apartments, condos and townhouses who don’t get the opportunity to hold a garage sale,” she says. “This is ideal because they support the Activity Subsidy Fund with their registration fee and then keep all of their sales.
“Shoppers love it too. It’s like having 90 family garage sales in one spot. A great opportunity to find treasures.”
Crafters and vendors have been added to this month’s event, which has already raised nearly $2,000 for the Activity Subsidy Fund with registrations.
The Terry Fox Committee will also be selling food and beverages.
Sellers often sell items directly from their trunk for the event.
Among the items for sale this year will be sports memorabilia, antique phones and a mobility scooter.
The sale takes place from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. The Gale Centre is located at 5152 Thorold Stone Road.
