Spears rally to muzzle the Durham Bulldogs

The Niagara Spears came-frombehind to defeat the Durham Bulldogs 27-22 in varsity football action at Kiwanis Field Friday night.

Dallas Bone passed for a touchdown, and David Hart returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Josh Ferguson scored two TDs on late-game rushes.

Cole McKinnon kicked three converts.

“We just never gave up as a team,” Coach Brian Duguay said. “The turning point was David Hart’s kickoff return after they (Bulldogs) scored a TD. Josh Ferguson just willed his way for both late TDs.”

In junior varsity Tier 1 play, the Durham Dolphins defeated the Spears 41-14.

Owen Tofano and John Serrano caught touchdown passes from quarterbac­k Jacob Burke for the Spears.

Jarod Tessier had a two-point convert.

On Saturday in junior varsity Tier 2 play, the Spears shutout the North Bay Bulldog 36-0.

Bryce Livingston converted an extra point and also added a twopoint convert.

Connor Miller, Landon Leger, Josh Boyle and Ryan Dilella had touchdowns in the win.

“We finally came together,” coach Gerry DiSantos said. “Everyone played well.”

In bantam play, the Durham Dolphins defeated the Spears 23.

Marshall McCray scored a touchdown and converted three extra points for the Spears.

Adrian D’Gyves and Nick Ciriello scored touchdowns.

The Spears also recorded a safety.
