Public pools open longer for weekend heat

With a heat wave hitting Niagara Falls hard this long weekend, the city’s five public pools will all offer extended hours.

Regular times for public swimming are 1 to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Until the heat advisory is lifted, all pools will be open an extra half hour, until 8:30 p.m. Special morning swim hours from 10 a.m. to noon will also be offered this weekend at the Prince Charles and F.H. Leslie pools.

Splash pads will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city’s public pools are located at:

- Prince Charles Pool, 6320 Arad Street

- Lions Club Pool, 4981 Drummond Road

- F.H. Leslie Pool, 5250 Valley Way

- E.E. Mitchelson Pool, 3800 Springdale Avenue

- Buck Hinsperger Pool, 3970 Welland Street (Chippawa)

The Red Cross is also offering children’s swimming lessons, with classes available for children up to 12 years of age. The Niagara Falls Swim Team is also open for registrati­on, with no racing experience necessary.

For adults, weekly Aqua Fitness is being offered at the Lions Club Pool starting July 11, from noon to 12:45 p.m. A 10-class pass can be purchased at the Coronation Centre on Summer Street.

Adult-only swim will also be offered throughout the summer from noon to 1 p.m. at the F.H. Leslie and E.E. Mitchelson pools.
