Tier 2 junior varsity Spears improve to 5-2

Bryce Livingston scored four touchdowns to lead the visiting Niagara Spears past the Toronto Jets 27-0 in the Ontario Provincial Football League’s Tier 2 junior varsity division.

Gabe DiSanto kicked three converts to round out scoring in Sunday’s game.

Niagara improved to 5-2 with one remaining in the regular season. Toronto closed out league play 1-7.

Next weekend’s schedule has the Spears on the road for a 5 p.m. kickoff at South Courtice Arena Fields against the Clarington Knights, 6-1.

A 43-7 loss to the Essex Ravens in the West Division final eliminated the bantam Spears from the playoffs.

Eugene Park scored Niagara’s lone touchdown and Marshall McCray scored the convert in Saturday’s game in Windsor.

Junior elite

Aiden McKinney scored four touchdowns and made a twopoint conversion as the TigerCats blanked the Gamblers 45-0 in the Niagara Regional Minor Football Associatio­n’s junior elite division.

Gavin McIntyre, Nick Tilik and James Vandenberg each scored a touchdown and Kaleb Dowling split the uprights with a convert in the game played at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines.

Bantam

Nolan Banga was the Falcon who couldn’t be grounded when visiting West Niagara defeated the Fort Erie Longhorns 28-0 in Football Niagara’s bantam division.

He scored two touchdowns, intercepte­d two passes and made 10 tackles in Sunday’s game on the turf field at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School.

Ethan Rutherford, Eljay

Thompson, with a touchdown each; and Nick Park, four extra points; rounded out the scoring.

Raja Nainggoian, nine tackles, intercepti­on; Tyler Crawford, seven tackles, one sack, fumble recovery; and Evan Reeces, seven tackles; were standouts on the defence for West Niagara.

Michael Grimo rushed for two touchdowns and connected with quarterbac­k Benjamin Maglicic for two more to help lift the Niagara Falls Argonauts into a 26-26 tie against the St. Catharines Seahawks.

Eli Pierobon scored two converts for the host Argos in Sunday’s game at Westlane Secondary School.

Jackson Stewart threw three touchdown passes to Quinn Johnston and Deondre Forde rushed for a major and made a two-point conversion to account for the St. Catharines scoring.

Peewee

Jayden Gurzi-MacDonald scored five touchdowns, punctuatin­g one of them with a run for an extra point, and the West Niagara Steelers beat the Fort Erie Longhors 39-14 in peewee action Sunday.

Lucas Hazelton, with a touchdown; Elijah Mercer, extra-point kick; also scored for the Steelers.

Johnny Breen intercepte­d a pass, and Chase Haan and Jake Portolesi recovered kickoffs for West Niagara.

Fort Erie scoring informatio­n was not submitted.

In peewee action at Westlane, it was the visiting St. Catharines Seahawks clipping the Niagara Falls Argonauts 26-20.

Scoring for St. Catharines: Wyatt Brown, two touchdowns, convert; Braiden Genest, two touchdowns; Cole Stewart, convert. Scoring for Niagara Falls: Julian Mangiacasa­le, touchdown, two converts; Carson Gauthier, touchdown; Clayton Wilen, touchdown.

Atom

Lucas Panucci scored three touchdowns and teammates Blake McKinnon and Brett Wall one each to lead the atom Niagara Falls Lions to a 36-33 victory over the St. Catharines Seahawks.

Easton Stewart rounded out the Niagara Falls scoring with two field goals.

Ezekiel Langendoen, touchdown, one-point convert; Cameron Kotyk, touchdown; Dahari Williams, touchdown; and Alex Caidaza, convert; scored for St. Catharines.

The Fort Erie Longhorns defeated the West Niagara Steelers 20-6, thanks to two touchdowns from Gavin Vazquez, one from Jordan Payne and a two-point conversion from Calem Smith.

Matthew McDevitt accounted for the West Niagara scoring with a touchdown.
