The past will be present at NOTL museum
Annual heritage festival to take place on civic holiday
Residents will learn the past is present on the civic holiday Monday at Niagara Historical Museum.
The museum will be hosting its annual The Past is Present heritage festival on Monday, Aug. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On that day, admission will be free to both the museum grounds and the exhibits inside. Visitors will be able to enjoy historical demonstrations, live music, a treasures sale and more.
Entertainment will include live music from the Niagara Old Tyme Fiddlers Association and banjo player Don Johnson. Historic demonstrations include blacksmith Neil Blythin, an antique firearms display, wool spinning, traditional rug hooking and the Métis Nation of Ontario.
Local author Dorothy Walker will be there with copies of new book on the history of St. Davids and artist Kathy Thomas will have her beautiful heritage maps of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Queenston.
New this year, the Mental Floss Sideshow is joining the event with Floss & Tann’s Cabinet of Curiosity for the Incurably Curious. This performance installation in the setting of a wonderfilled museum. Curated and presented by Prof. Archibald Floss and Dr. Charlotte Tann, this cerebral sideshow employs playful interaction and self-directed exploration to excite the senses of curiosity and wonder.
There will also be a bake sale and the Go-Go Food Co. which will be on site with its food truck.
The museum will be raising funds through its “treasures sale” and annual raffle tickets. Tickets are being sold at $2 each or three for $5 for a chance to win two wine prizes, valued at $400 and $250.
Proceeds from the sale and raffle support the ongoing care and preservation of the museum’s collection.
