Karters race to first wins

Two first-time winners shared the spotlight with multiplera­ce winners when karting returned to Merrittvil­le Speedway for the first time in two weeks.

Chris Crowe of St. Catharines and Randy Hollingshe­ad set the pace in the Junior 2 Division and Senior Fun divisions, respective­ly, for the first time this season.

Jaedon Lawson’s victory in Junior Restricted feature was his seventh of 2018. Travis Majuery of Niagara Falls also raced to win No. 7 in Senior Animal as karting returned to the Thorold track following a rainout.

Junior 1 took the week off. Following are the top five finishers and heat winners from Tuesday night’s features:

Junior 2, 15 laps: 1. Chris Crowe; 2. Nigel Pendykoski; 3. Hana Rothwell; 4. Cohen Corbett; 5. Trevor Evans. Heat winners: Pendykoski, Rothwell. Junior Restricted, 15 laps:

1. Jaedon Lewis; 2. Logan Iliffe; 3. Jacob Mamo; 4. Colton Lane; 5. Amber White. Heat winner: Lawson, both heats. Senior Fun, 20 laps: 1. Randy Hollingshe­ad; 2. Lenny Wiley; 3. Noah Mamo; 4. Jacob Broughton; 5. Ron McGarry. Heat winners: Wiley, Hollingshe­ad. Senior Animal, 20 laps: 1.

Travis Majuery; 2. Devon Rayment. Heat winner: Majuery, both heats.

Weather permitting, kart races are back on track Wednesday. Pits open at 5:30 p.m. with the first green flag set for 7 p.m.
