Regional nightmare continues

RE: IS NIAGARA REGION CAO A MILLION DOLLAR MAN? AUG. 10

How much longer is this nightmare going to continue?

Who in their right mind believes Niagara Region CAO Carmen D’Angelo, Chair Alan Caslin or anyone involved in any way with the hiring of Mr D’Angelo, should for a second time be permitted to suggest an individual to investigate this hiring process. The taxpayer has already paid for a worthless audit by a lawyer handpicked by this illustrious group and now we are expected to shell out for another study by another handpicked individual lacking any experience at all with this type of investigation.

As far as Mr. D’Angelo’s contract having been extended by someone, need we look further than Mr. Caslin? Let’s face it, the CAO was hired under a cringe-worthy process which has badly tainted our Region insofar as getting reputable, capable candidates to step forward in the future.

Mr. Caslin says he doesn’t read The Standard — perhaps that is his downfall. Had he been reading and paying any attention at all to what was happening at the NPCA, Mr. D’Angelo would not have been considered for the position he now holds. Oh wait, obviously someone already knew he was not capable of even passing the interview process without help.

Someone needs to throw the Region (meaning the taxpayer) a lifeline, we are drowning in bad representation.

I am disappointed in people I have voted for for years. Where are your voices? You are tainted by lack of backbone in speaking up for what is right. I can't wait to see some new faces — people I trust — go Mr. Bradley, Mr. Rigby and Mr. Darte. We need your experience and your integrity! Please Standard journalists, keep up the great work, your reporting is invaluable in times such as this.

Anger at Region growing

The more I read about regional council, the angrier I get, the more I sputter and fume. Does Chair Alan Caslin not understand every time he refuses to return a phone call from a member of the press — or to answer questions — he is thumbing his nose at the people he is supposed to serve? Sandy Annunziatia this goes for you also. You may think you are being clever in refusing to answer questions or return phone calls and you are well within your rights, however, any time I hear calls have not been returned I feel totally disrespected as a taxpayer and voter.

And Caslin doesn’t read the paper? Ye gods and little fishes — how does he pretend to understand what anyone in the Region is thinking?

Hiring sends message RE: ST. CATHARINES TO HIRE FULL-TIME GOVERNMENT RELATIONS ADVISER, AUG. 10

St. Catharines city council by announcing the hiring of a government relations adviser has basically declared the election of Jennie Stevens as MPP redundant, sending a message that the thousands of St. Catharines voters who elected Stevens made the wrong choice. And because of that, we now need to add one more bureaucrat to the city payroll.

The message as I understand it, is that unless we elect a member that is on the same side as the provincial government, then that member is powerless and irrelevant to the people they are supposed represent.

The Welland riding must have been, and still is at a great disadvantage, since they have not had a member on the side of the government since the days of Peter Kormos and the Bob Rae NDP government.

I do not recall them having to hire a government relations adviser.

Perhaps this will get Doug Ford’s attention, and maybe when he is done with Toronto, he will come to Niagara and get rid of some of our redundant politicians who obviously are not capable of representing us.
