DSBN has its priorities straight

-

I am constantly amazed, when I read the excellent reporting in The Standard regarding what is happening with governance at the regional, provincial and federal levels, that we have a forgotten gem of what is right in politics and leadership right here in our local school board.

In its own quiet, yet productive way, the District School Board of Niagara could teach a lesson in leadership to other levels of government in our region. The DSBN is recognized throughout this province and Canada as an educational leader in implementing new curriculum, establishing and surpassing levels of achievement, developing high skills secondary programming, producing solid and fiscally responsible business plans for the upgrading and building of new elementary and secondary schools, while working hard with our local municipalities to provide shared usage of these buildings and properties to the betterment of their communities.

They have put the right people in leadership positions that are not afraid to make the tough decisions while remaining fiscally responsible. The Ministry of Education has recognized this by working with the DSBN to achieve all of the above. Believe me, this does not happen in many other school boards that are constantly bickering with staff, their leadership teams, and their elected board of trustees and so have remained stagnant.

Not the DSBN. It has its priorities straight, and that being the excellent education of the children and young adults in their schools and programs. That is the true mark of success, yesterday, today, and for the future. Bravo DSBN! Our tax money well spent without the drama!
