Historical walking tour to be livestreamed

Sherman Zavitz’ strolls quickly book to capacity

Anyone wanting to participate in the latest walking tour hosted by city historian Sherman Zavitz can now do so without leaving the comfort of their home.

Sunday’s stroll along River Road and nearby streets, called Bridges, Roads and Historic Buildings, will be livestreamed on the City of Niagara Falls Museums Facebook page.

Zavitz hosts two historical walking tours each year. The events are very popular and quickly book to capacity, including the upcoming River Road walk.

“People love Sherman’s walks,” said Clark Bernat, the city’s culture and museums manager.

“But, you can only provide a quality tour to so many people so we looked for an alternative way to make sure more people can join in if they want to.”

The livestream will also allow people who have physical limitations to enjoy the tour as well as people from outside Niagara.

“This is another way to access what Sherman does so wonderfully,” Bernat added. “We want to do the best we can so it feels like you’re right here with us.”

The museum livestreamed segments of Zavitz’ walking tour in May, to test the quality of the video and and audio.

“The people who followed along said everything went well with the video and the sound,” Bernat said.

Sunday’s walking tour, along River Road between Queen and Bampfield streets, will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/ nfmuseums starting at 1:30 p.m. The tour will last about 90 minutes.
