John Gibbons makes the short list for long tenures in Toronto
Departing manager spent over a decade guiding Blue Jays
TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays announced Wednesday that manager John Gibbons won’t return in 2019.
Gibbons has spent 11 seasons as the Jays’ manager, over two stints. Here’s a look at other coaches who spent significant time with some of Toronto’s professional teams:
Toronto Maple Leafs Punch Imlach —
12 years (195869, ’80). Posted 370-275-125 regular-season record, 44-48 playoff record. Won the Stanley Cup 1962-64, ’67. Hap Day — 10 years (1940-50). Posted 259-206-81 regular-season record, 49-31 playoff record. Won the Stanley Cup 1942, 1945, 1947-49. Dick Irvin — Nine years (193140). Posted 216-152-59 regularseason record, 33-32-1 playoff record. Won the 1932 Stanley Cup.
