October is an exciting time of year, and Niagara Falls Public Library is ready to celebrate with fun programs and events.

Be sure to pick up our fall 2018 magazine to learn about all the exciting programs and events happening this fall.

Teen Read Week is Oct. 7 to 13. Throughout the whole week, any teen caught reading by a library staff member will get a chance to win book giveaways. Sign up for our Lights, Camera and Edit program on Oct. 11 to the learn the basics of video editing in our new Oakes Room Media Lab. Or drop in for our Candy Sushi program Oct. 9 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. All you need to bring is an empty stomach and an active imaginatio­n. Materials are provided.

In what decade is Stranger Things set? Which of Ron’s brothers is a Gryffindor prefect in Harry’s first year? That’s right: it’s trivia night at the library. Bring a team or come alone and connect with like-minded, useless informatio­n enthusiast­s to compete for some awesome prizes. Trivia Night is Friday, Oct. 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Victoria Avenue library.

For all you future producers, learn the art of audio with Wow! Recording Studio’s Joe Lapinski. Learn how to prepare for and set up your session, choose and place your mic, and get the most out of our new Oakes Room Media Lab. It’s completely free and you earn community involvemen­t hours by attending. Don’t miss out on the Recording Book Camp for Teens program on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In October, the community centre library is open until 8 p.m. on Fridays. Join us every Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for our Friday Night Block Party. The community centre library is also open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. Let your little artist loose with a mess of sensory, creative experience­s with our Toddler Art program on Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Or join us for a half-hour of singing, playing and reading with our Drop-In Storytime on Oct. 21 starting 1 p.m. Don’t miss out on our Saturdays at the library. Give old books new life by attending our Altered Books for Kids program at the community centre library on Oct. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Or sign up for our Taming the Web for Kids program on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn to understand, interact with, and create web content using freely available tools.
