Rookie on a roll in 5-pin league

- Special to The Standard

Brad Gaudreau is having a great start to his rookie season in the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League.

He had a fine night on the lanes, as he tossed a couple of 300 singles en route to a lane-scorching 816 (325, 313) to lead the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic to a 2-1 win over the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers.

Gaudreau had some help from Paul Asselin’s 772 (283, 234, 255) and Dave Pendlebury’s 707 (258, 242). The Town Criers had some hot hands as well in the match, which was decided by only 47 pins, as they replied with Kile Robins’ 838 (311, 315, 212), Rob Fisher’s 804 (263, 221, 320) and Brad Maurice’s 709 (250, 290).

In other matches, the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints took two of three from the Lakeside Electrical Lightning. Shawn Pellizari led the winners with a solid 731 (224, 216, 291) while Shaun Feere was right behind with 694 (334).

The Lightning struck back with Adam Eckhardt’s 686 (272, 219), while John Wendel rounded things out with a 636 (228, 217).

The Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks edged the Ontario Street Boston Pizza Brutes 2-1 on the strength of Chantal Papineau’s 696 (219, 286) and Sarah Stevens’s 652 (304).

The Brutes shot back with Tim Dixon’s 715 (229, 259, 227) and Jordan Gravelle who chipped in with 683 (291, 224).

In the night’s final match, the Wine Place Whiners defeated the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads 2-1. Rob Macdonald led the Whiners with a super 784 (278, 227, 279) while Mickey Pikor (244, 233) and Jeff Stevens (202, 293) each contributed matching 645s to the win.
