Have you booked your Sleep Cheap room?

- ALISON LANGLEY

There are still a variety of rooms available for the upcoming Sleep Cheap Charities Reap event.

While some locations are sold out — including Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Great Wolf Lodge — rooms are available at 19 Niagara Falls hotels including Sheraton on the Falls and the Americana Conference Resort.

The 15th annual event, which runs Nov. 11 to 16, provides an opportunity for Niagara residents to book a hotel room at a reduced price, with all funds raised donated to local charities.

“Sleep Cheap raises in excess of $100,000 annually and the monies raised are disbursed to local non-profits that support services in Niagara Falls,” said Coun. Victor Pietrangelo.

“Every dollar raised is given away.”

Mayor Jim Diodati, then a councillor, created Sleep Cheap in 2004 as a way to celebrate the city’s 100th anniversary. To date, the popular event has raised more than $1.8 million.

Meanwhile, the WonderFalls Pass is returning for another year during Sleep Cheap week.

The pass — $10 a person or $30 a family — includes admission to 10 tourist attractions such as Ripley’s 4D Moving Theatre and Guinness World Records on Clifton Hill as well as Niagara Parks’ Journey Behind the Falls.

Pietrangelo launched the WonderFalls Pass initiative in 2015 to raise funds to improve the condition and accessibility of parks and playgrounds in Niagara

Falls.

“This year, the city is upgrading 10 local parks and each park will have an accessible feature for those with special needs,” Pietrangelo said. “It is my goal to raise enough funds to make every park in Niagara Falls accessible for all to enjoy.”

To date, the WonderFalls Pass has raised almost $70,000.

Passes will be available for purchase until Nov. 16 at the following locations: Niagara Falls city hall, Gale Centre, MacBain Community Centre and the Niagara Falls History Museum.

Also, the Greg Frewin Theatre is offering up to 50 per cent off tickets to two upcoming shows during Sleep Cheap.
